A formal complaint of employment discrimination filed with the EEOC.
An EEOC charge is a signed statement filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission alleging employment discrimination under federal law (Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, etc.). For most claims, filing a timely charge and obtaining a right-to-sue notice is a prerequisite to a federal lawsuit, and the filing deadline (commonly 180 or 300 days) is short and strictly enforced.
